Lip Fillers vs. a Botox Lip Flip: Which Is Right for Me?

Say goodbye to thinner-than-you’d-like lips with dermal fillers or a Botox lip flip. Learn how these treatments vary so you can make a wise choice.

If you long for fuller lips without the hassle or risks of surgery, both lip fillers and the Botox® lip flip provide convenient options. These minimally invasive, nonsurgical treatments take mere minutes, and you can get right back to your usual activities afterward. But which lip treatment is ideal for you?

At BP Royal Medspa in Henderson, Nevada, board-certified registered nurse Barbara (“Barbie”) Rodriguez and her expert team provide fillers, Botox®, and Dysport® — all of which can help create a lip look that lets you feel more confident.

Let’s explore lip fillers and Botox lip flips, including how they work and factors to help you make a wise decision.

How lip fillers work

Lip fillers plump up your lips with the injection of a solution that contains an FDA-approved substance, like hyaluronic acid or polylactic acid. They can create a fuller look, or make your lips appear more symmetrical if one side is thinner than the other.

Three popular brands we offer at BP Royal Medspa include Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and

Sculptra® — all of which can enhance your lips. Lip filler results are immediate and may last for 12-18 months, or even longer.

How Botox lip flips work

Botox temporarily paralyzes muscles in the treatment area to reduce signs of aging, typically for 2-5 months. Both Botox and Dysport work this way, thanks to the main ingredient: botulinum toxin. And either injectable can be used for a lip flip.

During lip flip treatment, your provider injects Botox or Dysport into the edges of your lips at the corners of your mouth. Within days of the injections, the muscles around your upper lip start to relax, creating a small “flip” outward for a fuller look within a week or two.

How to decide between lip filler and a Botox lip flip

Your ideal lip plumping treatment depends on your goals and the current state of your lips. If you want dramatic results, you may fare best with lip filler treatment. You could also go with lip fillers if you’re hoping for immediate or longer-lasting results.

If you'd like more subtle and natural-looking results, we may recommend a Botox lip flip. The flip may not be your best choice if your lips are naturally quite thin, given that they give only the appearance of fuller lips without actually adding volume.

Your provider at BP Royal Medspa gladly guides you toward your best nonsurgical cosmetic treatment after an assessment of your goals and appearance.
